gin, bread and a bit of running

Hi! Welcome to gin, bread and a bit of running - my blog in which I attempt to share my life as I try to make time in the day for me and things I love as well as trying to lose my baby weight!

Why gin, bread and a bit of running? I once said to a colleague that if I ever wrote an autobiography "gin, bread and running" would be the title. It is how I've always described the time I spent six months living on my own when my then-boyfriend/partner (now-husband) was deployed to Sinai in early 2007. And as I have thought about starting my own blog I have thought that it was a great description of what I wanted to capture in my blog...
Gin: the things I love or would love to do and make time to try. Quilting is top of this list. I am very much a beginner sewer and the thought of
sewing clothes freaks me out but I love the idea of creating quilts and art at the same time for my family. Also my husband has the most horrible blanket that he snuggles under when watching TV - it needs to go, I've convinced him that if I make him a quilt I can rehome the blanket.
Bread: Food, I love to bake and hope to share some of my favourite recipes. In November we found our our wee girl, Molly (then ten months) is severley allergic to cows milk and now she is on an incredibly strict dairy-free diet which has been a huge adjustment and one I am still struggling with so have been experimenting and trialling dairy-free recipes that she can eat with us.
Running: My confession... a year after Molly was born I am STILL wearing my maternity jeans because I have no other jeans that fit! So this week I have started running and biking again. Way back I was a dedicated (but very slow) runner and completed a number of triathlons and even a half-marathon! Sigh.. back then I had all the time in the world even though I was working full-time and studying for my Masters. Now I have a four-day-a-week job (which I love), two kids under three, a soldier husband with a crazy roster and very little time for me... until now! I need to make time for me again so I can be me while still being a Mum and wife..

Would love to know who is reading this so please say hi and tell me what would be the title of your autobiography??
